The Vention IKBBJ is a 5-metre Cat 8 patch cable for short, high-speed links inside a rack or a small server cupboard: switch to switch, switch to NAS, or a workstation onto a multi-gig port. It is rated to Category 8 with bandwidth up to 2000 MHz and support for BASE-T network speeds up to 40 Gbps. The construction is fully shielded SSTP, with copper conductors wrapped in multiple aluminium foil layers and a braid, which is what holds crosstalk and electromagnetic interference off the pairs at those frequencies. Connectors are gold-plated RJ45 and the outer sheath is PVC. Multi-gig networking is unforgiving about cabling, and a cheap unshielded lead is the usual reason a link negotiates down a step or drops under load. Cat 8 is built for short runs, and 5 metres sits comfortably inside that window, which makes this a sensible patch between a switch and a NAS, a router and an access point, or an editing workstation and the rack it pulls footage from. In a home or office cupboard where the switch, the ONU and a UPS share one shelf with their power bricks, the shielding is doing real work rather than sitting on the spec sheet.
