This is a 5-metre Cat6 U/UTP patch cable with an RJ45 plug at each end — the cable that links a router, switch or wall socket to a desktop PC, smart TV box, games console, printer or network camera. It is unshielded twisted-pair Category 6 construction in a round PVC jacket, flexible enough to route along a skirting board or under a desk without fighting it. Cat6 wiring is rated for 1000 Mbps at 250 MHz, which covers gigabit home and small-office networking with headroom to spare over a run of this length, and the moulded RJ45 connectors click into a port and stay there. A wired link is still the steadiest connection in a flat or office here, where thick concrete walls and crowded Wi-Fi channels do real damage to a wireless signal. Running one cable to the machine that matters most — the desktop you work on, the console you play on, the TV box that keeps buffering — fixes more than any router setting will. At 5 metres it reaches from a router in one corner to a desk across the room, or from a wall point down to equipment on the floor.
