Overview

The Duracell Coppertop 9V is a single-use alkaline battery with the familiar snap connector, supplied here as a 1-pack single cell. It is the battery a smoke detector, a remote control or a small piece of test equipment asks for when it starts to chirp or fade. Chemistry is alkaline, the size is the standard 9V (6LR61/PP3) with snap terminals, and output is 9V. It is non-rechargeable, meant to be used and replaced rather than topped up, and it is built to resist leaking, which is what protects the contacts inside a device that sits untouched for months. With a guaranteed shelf life of up to 10 years in storage, a spare kept in a drawer is still good when the moment comes. Homes and offices use these in smoke detectors, remote controls, toys and test equipment, where the battery is out of sight until it fails. Keeping one spare to hand is worth doing: a detector chirping at two in the morning, or a meter that dies mid-job, is not a problem worth solving at the shops. Stored somewhere cool and dry, away from humidity, the cell holds its charge until it is needed.
